Arestin® in Fort Lauderdale

Gum Disease Treatment

Arestin® is a powerful antibiotic treatment used in combination with scaling and root planing to combat gum disease (periodontitis). This locally applied antibiotic helps eliminate harmful bacteria in deep periodontal pockets, reducing inflammation and promoting faster healing.

Arestin® contains minocycline microspheres, which are tiny, time-released antibiotic particles. After scaling and root planing, Arestin® is applied directly into periodontal pockets, where it gradually releases the medication over several days to target bacteria below the gumline. This extended-release formula ensures continuous bacterial reduction in areas that are difficult to clean with brushing and flossing alone.

Benefits of Arestin® Treatment:

  • Targets Bacteria at the Source – Works deep within gum pockets to fight infection.
  • Sustained Release – Continues killing bacteria for up to 21 days after application.
  • Enhances Gum Healing – Reduces pocket depth, swelling, and inflammation.
  • Prevents Disease Progression – Helps stop gum disease from worsening, potentially avoiding more invasive treatments like surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

ARESTIN® is an antibiotic treatment that targets bacteria deep within the gum pockets. It is placed directly into infected areas following a deep cleaning to combat bacteria and help manage periodontal disease.

Patients who are allergic to minocycline or tetracycline antibiotics should avoid ARESTIN®. It is also not recommended for pregnant or nursing women and individuals with certain medical conditions. Always consult your dentist to determine if ARESTIN® is right for you.

Some patients may experience mild side effects such as tooth sensitivity, gum irritation, or temporary swelling at the treatment site. In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur. If you have any concerns, contact your dentist.

ARESTIN® continues to fight bacteria for up to 30 days and has been shown to provide improved results compared to deep cleaning alone for up to 90 days.

For the first 10 days, avoid flossing and using dental tools around the treated area to prevent disrupting the medication. Follow your dentist’s recommendations for maintaining oral hygiene and attending follow-up visits.
